Spring 2018 Dean's List Announced
A total of 1,621 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Spring 2018 semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students eligible for the Dean's List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better and are enrolled full-time. The letter grade "B" earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade "A" earns 4 quality points per credit.

University of Scranton Confers Master's and Doctoral Degrees
The University of Scranton conferred nearly 600 master's and doctoral degrees at its graduate commencement ceremony on May 26 in the Byron Recreation Complex. Graduates recognized at the ceremony include those who completed their degree requirements in August and December of 2017, as well as January and May of 2018.

University of Scranton Undergraduate Commencement
The University of Scranton conferred more than 890 bachelor's and associate's degrees at its undergraduate commencement on May 27 at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre. Very Reverend Timothy P. Kesicki, S.J., president of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States, read the remarks of the principal speaker Most Reverend George V. Murry, S.J., Bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown, who was unable to attend the ceremony in person because he is undergoing treatment for a form of acute leukemia. Both Father Kesicki and Bishop Murry, in absentia, received honorary degrees from the University. Honorary degrees were also presented to Sister Ann Walsh, I.H.M., former CEO and current assistant director of Friends of the Poor; William Whitaker, founding president of the Washington Jesuit Academy, Washington. D.C.; and Cecelia Lynett Haggerty, Times-Shamrock Communications and former University trustee.

Wilkes University Student Chosen for Leadership Position in the Marching Colonels
Julia Guziewicz of Duryea, Pa., was chosen as the guard captain for the 2018 season of the Wilkes Marching Colonels. The region's only collegiate marching band marches in drum corps style, complete with wind and percussion instruments and guard. The Wilkes University Marching Band is one of the most visible groups on campus, performing at home football games and other on- and off-campus events.

A total of 1,205 students will receive degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania at separate commencement exercises for undergraduate and graduate students on May 4 and May 5.

Students join Rotaract Club at CCU to make a difference
The Rotaract Club at Coastal Carolina University has more than 20 regularly attending members who participate in a variety of events, including beach cleanups every two weeks and packaging weekend meals for elementary school-age students in the area in conjunction with Conway Medical Center's Smart Snacks program. The club also participated in CCU's Relay for Life event in March and the Carolina Forest Sunrise Rotary Club's Putting for Pupils Golf Classic on April 14.

Philosophy Honor Society Induction
University of Scranton students inducted into Phi Sigma Tau, the international honor society for students of philosophy. Eligibility for nomination requires a major or minor in philosophy as well as excellence in philosophy works. Induction of nominated students is based on voting results of philosophy faculty and current chapter members. The University's chapter of the honor society was established in 1982.

Biology Honor Society Induction
University of Scranton students inducted into Beta Beta Beta, the national honor society for biology. For induction into the honor society, students must have completed at least three biology courses, maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average in biology, and be in good academic standing at the University. The honor society encourages undergraduate biological research through presentations at conventions, publication in the journal BIOS, and research/travel grants. The University's chapter of the honor society was established in 1994.

Wilkes University Student Patrick Kaczmarczyk of Duryea, Pa., Awarded UPS Scholarship
Wilkes University student Patrick Kaczmarczyk of Duryea, Pa., was awarded the UPS Scholarship through the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania in the amount of $2,600. Kaczmarczyk is a senior nursing major. The UPS Scholarship is awarded to a student whose background reflects one or more of the characteristics of highest priority to the UPS Foundation and Council of Independent College's First Opportunity Program. Those characteristics include, first generation, low-income, minority, or new American students.
